Stour Space - Hackney Wick
I consider myself pretty lucky to work in East London. Here, I am completely surrounded by some of the best Restaurants and cafes in London. A treasure-trove of canalside restaurants line the River Lea and one of its true gems is Stour Space Café. There aren’t many places in London where you can kick back and enjoy chocolate pancakes sprinkled with honeycomb on a floating pontoon amongst the canal boats.
The café pontoon is a morning sun trap making it the perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or brunch (or why not all three!) The Le Cordon Bleu trained pâtissière’s creations are temptingly displayed on the café counter meaning you’ve already drooled over dessert before even seeing the menu. Brownies, Blondies and everything in between, you need to arrive early to enjoy this sight in it’s full glory, it takes some serious willpower and restraint to stick to just one of these sweet treats. Their lunch menu is seasonally focussed and has a little bit of everything with some tasty vegan and vegetarian offerings to ensure everyone is looked after. To top it all off Stour Space arguably pour some of the best quality coffee London has to offer but if you are after something crisp and cold they have a lovely selection of wines local craft beers on tap.
At first you could mistake Stour Space for just another East London hipster café but don’t be fooled by its exposed brick and natural wooden benches. The menu is creative and innovative – not a smashed avocado on toast in sight! (However, the staff are so friendly I’m sure they’d whip up whatever you fancy!) They are a special organisation who are socially minded and dedicated to showcasing and supporting the local creative community.
You will find Stour Space at 7 Roach Road, Tower Hamlets, London, E3 2PA. They open from 8am on weekdays and from 9am on the weekend.
