The Duck and Rice - Soho, London

I am not afraid to admit it, I have a Dim Sum addiction. My favourite weekends are spent roaming the streets of Soho and Chinatown in hunt for the best dim sum in London. Dumplings are my weakness. While we are lucky to be spoilt for choice in London, there is one place that has a hold on me. Duck and Rice on Berwick Street in Soho is my go-to for the best Dumplings in London.

Duck and Rice is Alan Yau’s homage to the British Pub, it combines two of my favourite things; the great British pub and delicious Chinese Food. When you come across an immense two-storey building with a façade of geometric patterned glass and a sign with a golden duck, you know you are in the right place. Through the double doors you will find the welcoming pub with dark leather lounge booths wrapped around small fireplaces.

The bar features a line up of International and local Craft Beers (and even beer cocktails!?). The bar menu is extensive enough to get your dumpling fix right there. However, to get the full Duck and Rice experience you must ascend the spiral staircase (which can be a challenge after a few glasses of prosecco, but don’t worry you will be rewarded once you reach the top.)

The menu is massive but I really don’t think you can make a bad choice here. The real test is trying to fit it all in! There a number of pre-requisite dishes that make my cut every time. First and foremost the Venison Puff (I love these so much, I once even ordered them for dessert), the Scallop Shumai and the Salt and Pepper Squid which is served with a delectable mix of fried garlic and chilies.

The prices here are not particularly cheap, however included in the price is the guarantee of something special; impeccable dishes, stunning surroundings and fantastic staff. It is unpretentious, casual dining however, you wouldn’t look out of place dressed up to the nines. While London makes it almost impossible to pick a favourite restaurant, I find myself coming back to Duck and Rice time and time again and I know it won’t be long until I need my next Dim Sum fix.
